I’m partially in agreement with Rocky’s view here… I mean partially that some of the words in the Hindraf memo did sucks but the memo itself is not! I’m sure that Rocky will not agree with me if I say that I.S.A is valid to be used upon those 5 Hindraf members. In fact nobody deserve it! There is no communist now in Malaysia. I did not wish to elaborate about the memo further. Read it first then make your own opinion! I’m just giving my opinion and I’m willing to listen your opinion too!
I’m old enough at this time in my early 30’s and being a citizen of this country to have an opinion of anything that happens in this country. Though I’m an Indian and raised as a Catholic in early days and later became a Protestan, I have lots of very close Malays being my best “kappekawan’s from past till now”! I knew their culture and we do respect each other. In direct words, I can live with their ‘ketuanan melayu’ but provided the rights of other minorities also being protected and they do not jeopardise the others for their own sake. I mean to be fair and just! That’s all.. This is how I told my Malay friends. This is my opinion and where I’m standing. You may defer! If you think that I’m biased or wrong or unethical or stupid or ‘pondan’ or whatever then it’s your opinion! You are free to have it without any additional charges!
Now coming to the real issue here about I.S.A, I firmly stand against it not only for those Hindraf people there but also for everyone that has been arrested in the past and I do hope nobody ever in this country being arrested under that draconian law. Unless the government really thinking of another Operasi Lalang! I hope no la. Is it really necessary to use the I.S.A? Why not just charged them in normal court and if it is sedition or militant is the crime then prove it in the open court. Let those who are being charged to have a chance to defence themselves. Today Malaysiakini reported that few Indian groups of NGO’s and community leaders in a closed door meeting made an appeal to the Prime Minister of Malaysia that those arrested Hindraf members to charged in an open court. Well.. I really doubt that the man with the big ears will listen to this appeal! He just did his duty. Can you blame him? Surely you can’t!
But that does not mean you can’t voice out your disagreement. If you don’t like it then are you really going to shut up and keep quiet! No is my answer! Mr. Prime Minister, I’m just appealing to you to please release all those in I.S.A detention (not only Hindraf’s members but all of them!) and bring them to the open court and charged them accordingly. I agree that every Malaysians and every human being deserves their day in a court as how blogger Nat says. I’m also quoting the poem by Martin Niemoller in Nat’s blog.
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
Today I’m happy because I have voiced out my concern about those arrested under I.S.A. I do not personally think that it’s their issue to be arrested.. just thinking ‘lantak depa la!’ Please don’t think like that is what I wanna ask all of you who read this post. Please do all you got in your power to STOP I.S.A! Thanks.
ciao!
